4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FES TO MERZOUGA ITINERARY

Day 1Fes » Azrou (Cedar forest) » Midelt » Erfoud » Merzouga [467 Km]

We will pick you up from your hotel or Riad to begin our 4-day, 3-night trip from Fes to the desert. Our route takes us south to Azrou via Ifrane (known as the ‘Little Switzerland of Morocco’), and through the Middle Atlas mountains, where we’ll stop at the cedar forest to see Barbary apes and capture stunning photos.

After lunch, we’ll proceed through Ziz Valley to Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga, where you’ll be greeted with a cup of tea and stay overnight at the Hotel/Riad.

Day 2Explore Merzouga area & Camel Trek (Night in Desert Camp) [45 km]

After breakfast, we’ll explore the area by visiting a village of people from Mali to experience their music and lifestyle.

Next, we’ll head to Miffis Mines to see their operations before venturing into the dunes for breathtaking views. We’ll enjoy a warm cup of tea with local Bedouins before returning to the hotel.

After a rest, your guides will provide tips on camel riding. Then, you can explore the enchanting sand sea of Erg Chebbi, with an overnight stay in a Berber tent.

Day 3Merzouga » Ziz Vally » Todra Gorges & Dades Valley [255 km]

We will make up early in the morning to watch the best sunrise of your life and casting different shadows and colors over the sea of sand dunes, the highest in Morocco, before returning to our desert hotel, after breakfast, We will continue to Tinghir and the stunning Todra Gorge the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco.

The gorge is a great spot for hiking and relaxing on the edge of the river or sampling some local Berber delicacies. After lunch in the heart of the gorge, we’ll drive through the Dades Valley where we will end our day spending the night in a nice hotel located on the top of the mountain.

 

Day 4Dades Valley » Ziz Valley » Midelt » Fes [472 Km]

After a delicious local breakfast, we pack up and start our 4-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Merzouga back to Fes. From Todgha Gorge we pass through palm groves and follow the Ziz Valley where we will stop in a panoramic spot to have tea and admire the scene before us.

The mountains surround us as we travel northwards to Midelt, you may see nomadic settlements in the fields with their goat-hair tents. After lunch, we continue our four-day tour traveling through the Middle Atlas Mountains and forests, you can stop to feed the mischievous Barbary Monkeys in the cedar trees and we will stop for coffee in the alpine town of Ifrane.

By late afternoon we will reach Fes where we say our goodbyes.

Is this a private tour or with a group?

Yes, it’s a shared tour. You will travel with a small group from around the world.

What should I pack for the tour?

Comfortable clothing and footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and a camera are recommended.

Are bathrooms private in the second night hotel?

Yes, they are. Your hotel room will have private ensuite bathrooms.

How long id the camel ride in Erg Chebbi?

It is roughly 1 hour for sunset and another hour for sunrise the following day. Time depends on season, Day light saving time, and sunset/sunrise time.

What if we want to skip the camel ride in Erg Chebbi?

You can. a 4×4 will be offered to transfer you from Merzouga lodge to Erg Chebbi desert camp for an extra fee of 30 Euros ( Included in luxury tent option )

Is sand boarding is included?

There will be a few sand boards available at the camp operator’s lodge to use at leisure ( Availability not guaranteed ). You can ask for one to take to the camp with you. They are free of charge
