12 DAYS MARRAKECH SAHARA DESERT TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1Welcome to Marrakech: transfer to your Hotel / Riad

We’ll meet you at the airport and take you to your Riad/Hotel.

Day 2Full Day to Visit Marrakech with a local guide

Join a local guide for a walking tour of the Medina, enjoy lunch in the old town, and visit Majorelle Garden before spending the night in Marrakech.

Day 3Marrakech » Ait Ben Haddou » Ouarzazate [195 km]

Depart for Ouarzazate, crossing the High Atlas Mountains. Visit Ait Benhaddou Kasbah and the film studios. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

Day 4 Ouarzazate » Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) [367 km]

Travel to Merzouga via Rose Valley, visit Todgha Gorge, and spend the night in Merzouga.

Day 5 Explore Merzouga area (Erg Chebbi Sahara Desert) [40km]

Discover the Merzouga region and experience Gnawa music in Khamlia village. Then, return to your hotel to embark on a camel ride for an overnight stay in the Sahara desert, sleeping under Berber tents and gazing at the stars.

Day 6Merzouga Camel trek & Overnight in desert camp

Today, our 12-day journey from Marrakech takes us to the desert. We’ll ride camels to the towering Erg Chebbi dunes and visit a Berber family, as well as Khamlia village to experience Gnawa music.

We’ll meet Berber nomads and explore a nearby palm oasis. After lunch in Merzouga, we’ll ride camels into the sand dunes to reach our desert camp.

Tonight, we’ll stay in a Sahara camp, where we’ll enjoy Berber drum music under the stars, along with stunning sunset and sunrise views. After a traditional Moroccan dinner, we’ll sleep in desert tents.

Day 7Merzouga » Rissani » Erfoud » Ziz Valley » Errachidia » Midelt [263 km]

Travel to Midelt, stopping at Rissani and Ziz Valley, then cross Errachidia. Spend the night in Midelt.

Day 8Midlet » Atlas Mountains » Azrou (Cedar Forest) » Fes Imperial City [204 km]

Depart for Fes, traversing the Middle Atlas Mountains. Feed monkeys in the majestic cedar forests of Azrou, pass through Ifran, and spend the night in Fes.

Day 9Fes Sightseeing tour with a local guide

Discover Fes’s medieval medina with a local guide, visiting the tanneries and ceramics. Enjoy an overnight stay in a traditional riad.

Day 10Fes » Volubilis » Meknes » Rabat [205 km]

Depart Fes to explore the Roman ruins at Volubilis, enjoy lunch in Meknes, and spend the night in a Rabat hotel.

Day 11Rabat » Casablanca » Marrakech [323 km]

Explore Rabat’s historic sites before heading to Casablanca. Visit the Hassan II Mosque and enjoy a drink or lunch at Rick’s Café or by the Atlantic Ocean, then continue to Marrakech.

Is this a private tour or with a group?

Yes, it’s a shared tour. You will travel with a small group from around the world.

What should I pack for the tour?

Comfortable clothing and footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and a camera are recommended.

Are bathrooms private in the second night hotel?

Yes, they are. Your hotel room will have private ensuite bathrooms.

How long id the camel ride in Erg Chebbi?

It is roughly 1 hour for sunset and another hour for sunrise the following day. Time depends on season, Day light saving time, and sunset/sunrise time.

What if we want to skip the camel ride in Erg Chebbi?

You can. a 4×4 will be offered to transfer you from Merzouga lodge to Erg Chebbi desert camp for an extra fee of 30 Euros ( Included in luxury tent option )

Is sand boarding is included?

There will be a few sand boards available at the camp operator’s lodge to use at leisure ( Availability not guaranteed ). You can ask for one to take to the camp with you. They are free of charge
