Historically, its name has various interpretations, from a site of executions by Sultans to “The Mosque at the End of the World.” Today, it’s a hub of entertainment, drawing locals and tourists alike.
We will enjoy a special guided tour of Marrakech with an official guide.
We’ll visit the iconic Koutoubia Mosque and the charming souks of the old Medina, explore the Ali Ben Youssef Koranic School, and see notable sites like the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and Majorelle Gardens.
In the evening, we’ll return to a Riad in the Medina for dinner and relaxation.
We’ll depart from Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 meters.
As we descend, we’ll pass through several traditional Berber villages and take a side road to discover Kasbah Telouet. Though it appears as a mere ruin from the outside, its interior features stunning tile, plaster, and cedarwood work, once serving as a residence for the governor of Marrakech.
Our 10-day tour continues from Fes to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987, known for its role in films. This fortified ksar, located on the ancient trade route to the Sahara and Timbuktu, is nestled by a river.
After lunch, we’ll drive to Ouarzazate and then to the beautiful Skoura palm grove, home to hidden kasbahs. We’ll also enjoy the scenic drive through the Valley of Roses before arriving in Dades for the night.
After breakfast, we’ll drive through Dades Valley to admire its stunning rock formations and take a break at a scenic gorge. As we leave Dades, we’ll head toward Tinghir and Todra Valley, where we’ll enjoy panoramic views of ancient Berber villages and palm groves.
Upon arriving at Todgha Gorge, you’ll walk beneath towering red cliffs, reaching heights of 300 meters at their narrowest point. We’ll continue to Erfoud and Rissani, historically known as Sijilmassa (the birthplace of the Alaouit dynasty), with lunch en route.
Finally, we’ll head to Merzouga, where you’ll be warmly welcomed with a cup of tea before spending the night at a hotel or riad.
Today, we’ll explore the Merzouga desert. We’ll start by visiting the seasonal Lake Sirji near the village of Khamlia, home to people from Mali, where you can enjoy their music and lifestyle.
Next, we’ll head to Meffes Mines to learn about the mining process before venturing into the dunes for stunning views. There, you’ll share a cup of tea with Berber Bedouins living in tents and get to know their way of life.
Before returning to the hotel, local guides will teach you how to mount and dismount camels, along with essential safety tips, as we embark on a 1 to 1.5-hour ride through the enchanting Erg Chebbi sand sea. Overnight will be spent in a Berber tent.
After returning from the desert with the camels and showering, we’ll head to Rissani, Morocco’s first imperial city.
We’ll travel through Erfoud, known for its fossils, and enjoy the panoramic views of palm groves and gorges in the Ziz Valley, then cross Tizi-n-Talghomt. In Midelt, we’ll stop for lunch.
