The 2-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Zagora offers a camel ride in the Sahara, a night under the stars in a desert camp, and visits to the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah and Ouarzazate.
Zagora is a captivating desert, but reaching it can be challenging. This comprehensive tour, available as a group or private option, allows you to explore iconic sites, enjoy camel rides over sand dunes, and experience desert camping. Private tours provide added comfort and a seamless itinerary.
Note: Zagora’s desert features rocky terrain and small white sand dunes. For larger orange sand dunes, consider the 2- or 3-Day tour to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi.
After breakfast, our two-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora begins. We head south through Ait Ourir, where the road narrows and ascends to the Tizi-N-Tichka pass at 2,260 meters, alongside the Tamesna River. You’ll see charming hamlets sustained by the waterways.
Continuing, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, a stunning fortified village known for its crenelated towers, one of the most beautiful kasbahs in the region. We then pass through Ouarzazate and the Anti-Atlas Mountains, along the Draa Valley, dotted with small villages.
The Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s largest, extends approximately 250 miles into the desert, leading us to Zagora, where camels await for a two-hour trek across the dunes. We’ll spend the night in nomad tents in the Sahara, enjoying the sunset, stars, and moonlight. Dinner and overnight stay at the desert camp mark the end of our first day.
On the second day of the two-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora, we will enjoy breakfast before departing for Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley, a 164 km paved road lined with charming villages and oases. After Agdz, we’ll cross the Djebel Sangha, known for its stunning heart-shaped dunes.
We’ll return to Marrakech through the Tiz-in-Tichka pass in the Atlas Mountains, where we can admire the remarkable colors of the Houz Valley.
